Art of Composition | Similar Objects

Fourteenth exercise in the Art of Composition meme is "Similar Objects." Actually, I was supposed to post my take 13th of April, but because I got a little busy, it was just now that I was able to post this. Well, no worries, as there has been a break in the meme, too, so I wasn't really that late. Anyway here is my photo:

Exercise 14 - Similar Objects

Art of Composition

...which I am linking to Flowers on Saturday and Fabulous Friday, too, because I took this picture the other day using my cell phone. I was sweeping off the fallen leaves and the macopa fruits on our side of the street when I saw these pink (well they are pink) flowers in the garden of our neighbor fronting our house. Seeing these two flowers close to each other made me thought of the exercise, and since I always have my cell phone in my pocket, I was able to capture this.

I could say it was a bit challenging because I need to find an angle that would show a little space between the two flowers, but of the three pictures I took, this appealed to me the most because I didn't have to work on the picture that much, though I admit I did a little sharpening, which was allowed in the exercise.

The next exercise is now posted, but I will post my take for that this Wednesday. Happy weekends!

Litratong Pinoy | Kalsada (Road)

Kalsada

{I took this picture in Balaoan, La Union when I visited the Grotto in Barangay Bungol. Crossing this road is quite scary and risky because vehicles don't slow down in this part, so whenever I tell my Aunt I will be going there she would always tell me to cross the road carefully.}

Nagkataon lang nang araw na ito kaunti lang ang mga sasakyan, kaya nakakuha pa ako ng isang litrato sa gitna ng kalsada. Nakakatuwa lang makita ang bundok sa dulo ng kalsada. :)

{I was lucky that time that there weren't that much vehicles passing by so I was able to take a picture while in the middle of the road. Well, it was the mountain that took my interest, so I snapped.}

A Bleeding Heart, Maybe?

Bleeding Heart?

Macro Monday Today's Flowers

My share this Monday is another flower picture, because yes, I do tie up the memes because there are just so many good memes happening at the same time. Anyway, I don't know what this flower is called, but it seems to look a lot like bleeding heart.

I took this picture in Baguio City last March... that city certainly has all sorts of flowers that everytime I go there, I can just roam around take pictures of flowers and be a happy photographer. I edited this on GIMP, this time using the path tool. I always make a selection using the scissors, but because the stem of the flower was quite small, using the scissors gave me a not so good selection. The path tool was a more stable tool to use, in my opinion, so I guess I am going to use it that often now.

Have a great week ahead, everyone!

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 042411

Happy Easter, shutter bugs!

I wasn't able to update all of my blogs the past few days (though I never went offline, completely... I took the time to resize picture backlogs), and right now I do feel I the need to update all of my five blogs, so I will go straight to my pictures for this week:

Reflection

01. Reflections.

The only from the vault pictures I have this week, I took this last February while my sister and I (with our niece Louianne) were walking back home from Paratong Beach. Going there we took the other lane, and walking back, seeing the reflection on the water just made me ask them to wait for a while because I needed to take a picture of it. The pond had ducks actually, but I was using my cell phone and they were too small to be seen.

Guess

02. Guess What This Is.

Well, can you?

If you're having a difficult time thinking, well, that's a whole bunch of molds. Last week, brother bought some vegetables we could cook on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday in case the market will be closed (observance of the Holy Week), but he forgot to put it inside the fridge. Friday, when it was time for us to cook the squash (brother just bought a small cut, not the whole fruit... or vegetable), I just saw this farm of mold on the surface of the squash. Being the frustrated biologist that I am, I took my camera and took pictures before throwing out the squash.

Inside

03. What's Inside.

I started scrapbooking in 2006, and along the way, I was able to collect quite a lot of stuff, nearly half of which were given by other scrapbookers. It's been two or so years now that I stopped creating scrapbook layouts because we didn't have a printer anymore (I couldn't afford all those materials, so I personally hand cut letter titles by printing the letters on the paper as my guide). The Holy Week became a week for spring cleaning, and checking my closet of scrapbook materials, I saw these alphabet pins, something given by Marj, a Filipino scrapbooker based in the USA. I received this in 2009, but wasn't able to use it - as you can see there were rust already. The pins were arranged in order, just re-arranged it to spell God & I.

Playtime

04. Playtime.

If my cats weren't eating, or sleeping, or having little fights, they would play by themselves. I took this picture just after lunch when I saw my cat Orange-y playing with a little plush toy. I guess he was just trying to tire himself, because after this little stint, he just fell asleep.

Linking this picture to Camera Critters, too.

Garden

05. Lawn and Garden.

Last Sunday, my sister and I bought a pot of basil and mint, and yesterday, we noticed the herbs just growing and we felt as if we needed to put them in a much bigger pot. My sister did find a bigger pot and some soil in our front garden, but reading Internet posts about having an herb garden, my sister told me she needed to buy some compost and a special kind of soil before replanting it. Well, I really thought this day was the day she would work on the herb garden, but I guess we should wait.

Hope everybody had a solemn observance of the Holy Week, thanks for hopping by here.

Before closing this up, I want to talk about a Food Blog Meme I created a few months back... it's called Weekend Eating, where foodies highlight foods they ate / cooked / served from the weekend. It's not necessarily a photo challenge meme, although, if you want to highlight your food photography, you are most welcome to do so as well. It's happening every Mondays (linky is up every 12:01am of Mondays, Philippine time +8 GMT). To know more, please check this link for more details. Thanks!

Phonography | Orange-y Kitty

My memory card reader has gone bonkers and it was difficult for me to transfer photo files from my cell phone to my netbook. Now that my connection has been restored (I am no longer using my cousin's Internet Stick), I can now transfer files using the cell phone's cable.

My share for phonography this week:

Orange-y

I took this last night. Initially, I wanted to take a picture of my cat Orange-y while he was lounging on the ground, but since my cell phone gives off that red light whenever I took a picture on low lit environments, the red light surprised my cat and made him get up and walk away. I set my camera to macro and since I already pushed the shutter, I just followed my cat and the image came out like this... almost like an abstract painting.

No major post-processing besides sharpening. The image may not be that pretty, but I could say I like how this picture came out.

Color Splash Sunday: Bougainvillea

Wow... has it really been a week since I last update this blog? Well, I wasn't gone, it's just that last week, my cousin worked on my net book, and now that my net book has been upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, much of the task that I needed to do was to put back the picture files we first saved in DVDs. Transferring the files is taking a whole lot of time, so blogging was a bit difficult for me, as I have to check each DVD if I needed one particular photo file.

In my Facebook, I am currently editing and uploading pictures from April 2010 (yes, I am pretty much a year behind my Facebook uploads), and checking the pictures worthy of uploading, I saw this picture and thought I'd share it for Color Splash Sunday:

Bougainvillea

April 2010, I signed up for a photo hunt (a fun blog game happening every other month), and one of the items was "smell." Last week of that month, I went for a week vacation in my mom's hometown and spent the entire vacation in Aunt Jo's house. It was already the last day of the month and I still haven't finished hunting all the items in the list, so I just asked my niece Grace (daughter of cousin Ailene) to pose for me. Well, the bougainvillea flowers aren't fragrant, but I just wanted to achieve the "smell" side of it, and I was thankful she posed for me.

By the way, I wanted to thank Amy for choosing my last CSS picture as part of her top three photos.
